catholic studies minor at st johns university
We have a new interdisciplinary minor at St. John’s University that brings together professors and students from diverse disciplines to engage the best of the global Catholic intellectual and cultural tradition.
The Minor in Catholic Studies is an interdisciplinary program of study housed in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies that educates students with the integrating vision of the Catholic intellectual and cultural tradition.
It brings together professors and students from diverse disciplines to engage each other through courses, presentations, and conversations as we think and work collaboratively on studying and expressing the global Catholic intellectual and cultural tradition.
This comprehensive collaboration will help inform, develop, and enliven twenty-first century Catholicism.
The purpose comes from Pope John Paul II who said that we should:
“acquire a fresh approach to fostering the meeting of human minds, giving greater incentives to the quest for truth, scientific advances and the transmission of culture. … we should rediscover a renewed trend toward the unity of knowledge — that of the uni-versitas — with innovative courage in planning a curriculum of studies for a high-profile cultural and formative plan that serves the whole man.”
